Renaissance Angel Silk Chiffon Scarf
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES A striking Fox & Chave silk chiffon scarf featuring a depiction of an angel playing a lute set against an azure blue sky from a series of frescoes by the Italian renaissance painter and architect Melozzo da Forlì (1438-1494) The frescoes were created for the Bessarione chapel in the Basilica dei Santi Apostoli in Rome, a 6th-century Catholic parish and titular church and minor basilica that is the mother church of the Conventual Franciscan Order. Melozzo da Forlì was a part of the Early Renaissance known for his pioneering use of perspective and foreshortening, particularly in ceiling frescoes. Strongly influenced by Piero della Francesca and Andrea Mantegna, he brought spatial illusionism to new heights. His most celebrated work is the Ascension of Christ (c. 1480), again for the Basilica dei Santi Apostoli, it is renowned for its dynamic, upward-looking foreshortening. This was taken down in 1711 and moved to the Quirinal Palace, the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic. Other important works include Sixtus IV Appointing Platina as Prefect of the Vatican Library and frescoes in the Sacristy of Loreto . Melozzo's innovations in depicting figures from below influenced later artists, including Raphael and Michelangelo.
