Description

DESIGNER'S NOTES A floral Fox & Chave silk chiffon scarf with a design based on a lithograph entitled The Ellsworth Garden created in 1920 by the English designer Harry Wearne (1852 - 1929), who worked in Paris for a wallpaper manufacturer before emigrating to the USA at the outbreak of World War I. Interestingly, Wearne had a namesake Harry Ellsworth Wearne who was a British Army officer and recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for gallantry in the face of the enemy. It was awarded posthumously for his bravery during World War I, when in July 1917 he led a bombing attack near Loos, France, and was killed while covering the retreat of his men. Though there is no direct evidence of this work being a silent tribute by the textile designer, the timing, a few short years after the gallant soldier's passing, and the title, seems perhaps beyond coincidence. COLOURS STYLING There are many ways to style a Fox & Chave chiffon silk scarf including the basic drape, belted drape and reverse drape. Our chiffon silk scarfs look really good worn in the bandit knot or faux infinity style too. More scarf styling ideas are available in this wonderful How to Tie a Scarf book. Length: 180 cm Width: 52 cm Dry clean only 100% Silk Chiffon Hand Rolled Hems
