Hunt In The Forest Chiffon Scarf
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES A sky blue Fox & Chave silk chiffon scarf with dashing dogs and hurrying hounds derived from the painting Hunt in the Forest by the Florentine painter and mathematician Paolo Uccello (1397-1475). Created around 1470, the painting is often regarded as the first night-time landscape in European art. Uccello, celebrated in Florence for his fascination with mathematical perspective, used a dense arrangement of trees to draw the viewer's eye into the vanishing point deep within the darkness of the woods. The subject, riders and hounds pursuing deer, is deceptively decorative, yet the composition reflects Uccello's obsession with order and geometry. He painted with tempera on wood, a demanding medium that required layering of egg-based pigments for luminosity. The rhythmic positioning of dogs and hunters broke with compositional traditions giving the image a sense of modernity. Many of Uccello's panel paintings were lost to damp Florentine interiors, but this one survived the centuries.
