The use of silk chiffon offers a wonderful translucency evoking the artists everlasting exploration of the qualities of light and colour. Claude Monet's 'Water Lilies' series, represent a culmination of his lifelong fascination with capturing the essence of water and light. The presence of lush vegetation and unknown watery depths invite the viewer into an immersive experience, and a radical way of experiencing art for its time. A massive 250 paintings were created from 1897 until the end of his life in 1926, with the series typically depicting the serene surface of Monet's Japanese-style water garden at his home in Giverny, France.
