Moroccan Zellige Silk Habotai Scarf
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES A multi-coloured Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf with a design of graphical forms reminiscent of those used in North African decorative design particularly on traditional tiles. Moroccan zellige is a form of geometric mosaic tilework that dates back to the 10th century, reaching its artistic peak under the Marinid dynasty. Crafted from individually chiseled pieces of terracotta covered in enamel glaze, zellige patterns are assembled into intricate designs based on mathematical principles and Islamic art's aniconic traditions. Repeating stars, polygons, and interlaced forms create a sense of endless complexity, reflecting spiritual ideas of unity and infinity. Traditionally used to adorn fountains, palaces, and mosques, zellige combines architectural function with visual harmony. Its influence is seen in contemporary design through stylised patterns in wallpaper, ceramics, and textiles, where ancient craftsmanship informs modern aesthetics without losing its cultural and mathematical sophistication. COLOURS STYLING A Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf can be worn with the classic knot style or a pussycat bow. You can even create a shawl effect by knotting two scarves together behind your neck and allowing them to drape over your shoulders.
