Mackintosh Flowers Habotai Silk Wrap
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES An oversized Fox & Chave silk habotai wrap featuring floral elements in repeat from a design sketch by the Scottish Architect, designer and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928). A pivotal figure in the British Art Nouveau movement, employed floral motifs with a distinctive stylisation that set his work apart. Most famously, the Glasgow Rose, often depicted as a stylised, geometric spiral, became an emblem of his aesthetic. But Mackintosh's floral imagination extended far beyond this singular motif. In his design sketches for interiors, furniture, and stained glass, he often incorporated elongated stems, drooping tulips, and ethereal blossoms rendered in watercolour and pencil. These elements were not merely decorative; they suggested a language of growth, fragility, and femininity. His florals were disciplined yet expressive, often aligned with vertical or grid-like structures, bridging organic form with architectural rigour. In textile designs and gesso panels created with his wife, Margaret Macdonald, flowers floated in mystical spaces, merging the decorative and the symbolic. COLOURS STYLING A Fox & Chave habotai silk wrap is a large oversized item with fabulous versatility.
