Deco Zig Zag Silk Chiffon Scarf
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES An exciting Fox & Chave silk chiffon scarf with a black and white zigzag design. The term zigzag likely originated in the late 17th century, derived from the French word, which may itself have imitated the motion it describes; sharp, angular turns back and forth. The word possibly combines zic (a dialectal variant of sig , meaning 'sudden turn') with zag , forming a rhythmic, onomatopoeic expression. It was first used in military contexts to describe the angled trenches or fortification lines designed to avoid direct enemy fire. Over time, zigzag came to describe any pattern, motion, or path characterised by sharp alternations of direction, especially in design, textiles, movement, or speech. Its vivid sound mirrors the abrupt, energetic quality of the form it denotes.
