17Th Century Embroidery Silk Chiffon Scarf
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES A refined floral Fox & Chave silk chiffon scarf with design derived from a linen embroidery from the early 1600 in England that used the couch and stem techniques. Couch and stem embroidery are two traditional hand embroidery techniques. Couching involves laying threads (often thicker or metallic) on the fabric surface and securing them with small stitches of finer thread at intervals, allowing intricate shapes and textures. It's common in goldwork and decorative borders. Stem stitch, by contrast, is a line stitch used to outline shapes or create flowing lines, ideal for stems and lettering. It's worked by bringing the needle up through the fabric and then down slightly ahead along the design, with the thread emerging from the middle of the previous stitch, forming a smooth, twisted line. Both techniques add texture and detail, often used together in floral or ornamental designs. COLOURS STYLING There are many ways to style a Fox & Chave chiffon silk scarf including the basic drape, belted drape and reverse drape. Our chiffon silk scarfs look really good worn in the bandit knot or faux infinity style too. More scarf styling ideas are available in this wonderful How to Tie a Scarf book.
