Kilburn Marble End Habotai Scarf
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES A subtle Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf with a design after an accurate and detailed study of various plants and flowers by the Irish born 18th Century illustrator and print designer William Kilburn (1745-1818). This particular design was used for marble endpaper, a decorative sheet, often with swirling, multicoloured patterns resembling marble, used inside the covers of books to line the front and back boards. Traditionally, it was hand-marbled by floating pigments on water or a viscous solution, creating the pattern, then transferring it to paper to create both an ornamental and functional reinforcing to the book's binding. In this case the image is typical of the detailed botanical studies that Kilburn produced in his early career. COLOURS STYLING A Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf can be worn with the classic knot style or a pussycat bow. You can even create a shawl effect by knotting two scarves together behind your neck and allowing them to drape over your shoulders. More scarf styling ideas are available in this wonderful How to Tie a Scarf book. Length: 180 cm Width: 52 cm Dry clean only 100% Habotai Silk Hand Rolled Hems
