DESIGNER'S NOTES A simple Fox & Chave crêpe de chine silk scarf featuring a simple blue and white pattern of palm tree fronds and other leaves c.1868 by Sir George Gilbert Scott on behalf the the Morris Company. The pattern was originally titled 'Indian Wallpaper'. Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811-1878) was a renowned English architect, famous for his Gothic Revival style. He designed and restored many iconic buildings, including the Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras Station and the Albert Memorial in London. Scott's work emphasised medieval elements, something he shared with William Morris, blending historical accuracy with Victorian innovation. In 1874, he co-founded Watts & Co., a firm that produced textiles, wallpapers, and other decorative arts in a similar style to Morris & Co., further cementing his role in the decorative arts movement. He was a prolific church restorer, shaping England's ecclesiastical landscape. Despite criticism for some restorations, his influence was significant in 19th-century architecture. Scott also mentored younger architects and contributed to public and civic architecture, leaving a lasting legacy as one of Victorian England's foremost architects.
