DESIGNER'S NOTES A Fox & Chave silk chiffon scarf with a photographic print of Peacock feathers. The peacock feather has shifted meaning across centuries and cultures, from a symbol of immortality in ancient Persia to watchful protection in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. In Byzantine art, it adorned religious textiles and icons, standing for resurrection and divine omniscience. During the Renaissance, it reappeared as a sign of vanity and pride, a duality embraced by later Symbolist painters. In Art Nouveau design, the feather became decorative gold, prized for its iridescent asymmetry and rhythmic form. Aubrey Beardsley wielded it as both erotic flourish and decadent emblem, while Tiffany Studios embedded its shape into stained glass and jewellery. Its eye-like motif suggested vision and surveillance, beauty and danger, making it one of the most visually and conceptually layered symbols in art.
