Kandinsky Grey Square Tote Bag
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES A laminated tote style bag featuring the work G raues Viereck by the Russian painter and art theorist Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), Translated in English as Grey Square, the work was painted in 1919, and belongs to a period when Kandinsky was refining his theories of abstraction after the upheavals of the First World War. The composition arranges circles, triangles and angular forms around a muted grey square that anchors the painting, suggesting both stability and a field for dynamic interaction. Kandinsky, who believed shapes and colours carried spiritual resonance, used grey as a neutral ground against which vibrant reds, blues and yellows could vibrate more intensely. The work reflects his attempt to create “visual music,” where harmony arises from contrast and rhythm rather than representation. It also anticipates his later Bauhaus years, when geometry became central to his teaching and artistic practice. COLOURS DETAILING A high spec laminated canvas tote shopping bag.
