Guiguichon Poshmina Stole
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES This colourful Fox & Chave poshmina™ with a design derived from a hand knotted carpet by Suzanne Guiguichon (1900-1985) created between 1925 and 1927. The piece was brought to market by La Maîtrise , the specialised home design studio of Paris's Galeries Lafayette department store. With its vibrant, abstract botanical patterns, the hand-knotted wool rug beautifully captures the spirit of 1920s French Art Deco. In 1930, Suzanne Guiguichon established her own Paris studio, transitioning from commercial department store design to a highly respected independent practice. She became renowned for her refined, functional aesthetic, championing light woods like sycamore alongside playful elements of wicker and tubular metal. Her exceptional mastery earned prestigious French state commissions, including private bedrooms for President Vincent Auriol at the Chteau de Rambouillet and the Élysée Palace. Beyond her exquisite physical designs, Guiguichon shaped future generations, dedicating decades to design education by teaching decorative arts at the École de l'Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs and the École Duperré in Paris, France.
