DESIGNER'S NOTES A courtesy face mask with a pattern of bicycles in an illustrative style. Cycling emerged as a popular leisure pursuit in the late nineteenth century, following the development of the safety bicycle with equal-sized wheels and chain-driven mechanics. Unlike the precarious penny-farthing, these bicycles were accessible to a wider public, including women, and allowed extended travel at speed without horses. Cycling clubs and touring societies flourished across Europe and North America, promoting both camaraderie and sport. It transformed urban and rural mobility, encouraging exploration of the countryside, coastal roads and new scenic routes. Illustrated periodicals and postcards celebrated the freedom and elegance of cycling, while it also influenced fashion, prompting divided skirts and practical attire. The activity blended recreation, independence and modernity in a single cultural phenomenon. COLOURS DETAILING 3-ply, soft metal nose bridge, adjustable ear loops, and stretch surround.
