Hiroshige Cherry Blossom Silk Habotai Scarf
Description
DESIGNER'S NOTES
A delicate floral Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf featuring elements from the work Willow, Cherry Blossoms, Sparrows and Swallow, (1870s) by Uttagawa Hiroshige III.
Not to be confused with the original artist Hiroshige (1797-1858), Uttagawa Hiroshige III worked in the style of the original Hiroshige and was a student of Hiroshige II, the adopted son-in-law of the original master. To confuse matters a little more when his mentor died, Hiroshige III then married his master's widow.
His work included Meiji-era prints depicting familiar traditional Japanese scenes and motifs but also detailed increasing modernisation, such as railways and Western-style buildings, blending traditional ukiyo-e techniques with contemporary subjects.
